I find the census form more interesting than James Joyce.
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
—Hamlet, Act I, Scene 5
The absence of the father, the age difference between the children, the two older girls working, the twins still scholars, the 10 years old boy who is the only male in the household. This single census form provides a deeper look at humanity than all of Joyce’s work combined. Call me mad if you want, I will gladly join the company of prophets.
