This is one of those tunes that would be great to hear at a funeral, I think. Can’t get it out of my head since seeing Shine the other day. I was reading a short piece by Denis Stevens (a great Monteverdi scholar) the other day about being down and out in 18th century Venice – apparently, if you were an orphan, you would be better off, especially if you ended up at Pieta with maestro Vivaldi.
This is from Vivaldi’s Amor Sacro & Mottetti recording with Simone Kermes, Andrea Marcon & Venice Baroque Orchestra. A must have for your growing collection of excellent music.
